Author’s note: The 1930 tournament was played with a unique feature; all teams losing the opening round entered the “Consolation Bracket.” Sixteen teams were selected to play in the tournament. The eight winning teams continued in the winners bracket and the losing teams entered the Consolation bracket. Each bracket played four games in the quarterfinal round, two games in the semifinal round and one game in the final round.

Of the five Powhattan players who have played the most on the 1939 first team, only one will be lost by graduation, Jack Kneisel . The other four, Gerald McCrerey, Bruce Holman, Floyd Skulley, and Aloysius Volz will be back for another year. In addition, Musick, Sutley, Pfister, Schuetz, Wenger, Owens, Williams, Barrand, Kneisel, and Couch, and several other boys will do much to make a good team.
